Along with several businesses in Lake of Bays and Ontario Trysport, our Ironman Muskoka Experience Committee has set up “Athlete Welcome Centers” to help athletes out when they are out on the bike course training.
Each centre is equipped with washrooms, drinks and snacks for athletes as well as tools and equipment for bike repair.
Each of these locations will have a clearly marked sign saying “Athlete Welcome Centre”. These Athlete Welcome Centres are located in:
- Dwight … The Beacon: Located just as you turn off highway 35 onto highway 60. You can reach them at 705-635-2403
- Dorset … Robinsons General Store: Located in downtown Dorset, adjacent to the single lane bridge. You can reach them at 705-766-2415
- Baysville … Lake of Bays Brewery: Located adjacent to the river right on highway 117 in Baysville, they are open Monday to Thursday 11 to 5pm, Friday 11am until 6pm, Saturday from 10am till 6pm, and Sunday 11:30am to 4:30pm
- Baysville … Humble Pie and the Fork in the Road: Located just off of the bike course on Bay Street
NyDock Floating Docks and Pontoons has paired up with Muskoka Roastery and our Ironman Muskoka Experience Committee to help give you a kick start on your swim! The swim up coffee bar tradition that started in Kona, has been adopted by some Ironman communities, but our community is kicking it up a notch.
This floating 16’x32′ bar, complete with Muskoka chairs, and adjoining floating picnic tables, will be a swimming experience that you have never experienced before. The location will be just off of the beach at the swim start at Deerhurst resort, and it will be open for business on Friday August 28th and 29th. We tried to have it available on race day, but we thought it might distract too many people…
Ontario Pioneer Camp has graciously offered up a number of their dorm style rooms to create a “Volunteer Village” for Ironman Muskoka. Pioneer Camp is a 20 minute drive from the race site on the outskirts of the beautiful village of Port Sydney. For $15 per person, per night, these accommodations provide a true Muskoka experience as “camp life” is central to what Muskoka is all about. Click on the link below to view the flyers and details:
Contact Pioneer Camp to book your spot and let them know you are a volunteer for the race!
The CASEM Summer Endurance Sport Medicine Course is back and this time we are holding the course immediately prior to the new Ironman® Muskoka event in Huntsville starting at noon on Thursday 27th August and ending at 5pm on August 28th – we also encourage participants to stay on and volunteer for (or participate in) the Ironman race – this is the ONLY Ironman in Ontario and only the third in Canada – this course will provide a great opportunity to increase knowledge on the issues pertinent to endurance athletes and their care by reviewing the latest science regarding sports and exercise, as well as common sports related injuries and illness. For 2015, we have also added a mental health component – as the great endurance athlete Ray Zahab noted, completing and participating in an endurance events –“limitations are 90% mental and the other 10% are in your head”. In addition to the course, attendees also have the option to earn additional CME credits by volunteering in the Ironman® Medical Tent on race day.
In addition to CASEM members, this one and a half day course is open to physicians in the fields of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, PM&R, Orthopedics and others who care for athletes or engage in regular athletic activity, as well as Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Physicians Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Exercise Scientists.
For those of you volunteering in the medical tent at Ironman® Muskoka, we have arranged for a preferred registration rate (see online registration form for details).
