Workout Schedule

Our qualified coaches are on top of their game, so our members can perform at the top of theirs.

Our club training workouts are led by our professional coaches who have a significant amount of national and international level coaching and racing experience.   However, it is important to know that they are grounded and are realistic with each and every members skill and fitness level, and goals, in mind.  Read more about them on our coaches profile page.

Our club also has a number of NCCP qualified coaches, who all have at least their level one Community Coaching Certification in Triathlon. Read more below about each one of our coaches and the workouts that they will be leading.

A Workout Calendar With Real-time Updates

TeamSnap-Logo

The TriMuskoka Triathlon Club uses an online team management system called TeamSnap.  This site allows all of our members to see what workouts, social events, and races that are coming up, as well as having access to the actual workouts that our coaches are leading us through (in case you couldn’t come to a workout).

So, if you are a member, please login by clicking the link here.  If you are a club member and haven’t received an invite, please contact our Membership Coordinator at evelynn[at]triathlonmuskoka.com

A couple of things to note:

  • Download the app and log in: Here is a little video about the apps which are available for Apple and Android devices.  Click here to download the app.
  • Turn on notifications: After logging into the app as well as online, got to “My Preferences” and make sure that you turn on the notifications by text and email.  This will allow us to send you messages to keep you up to date about workouts and cancellations.
  • Add the TriMuskoka Triathlon Club calendar to your personal calendar:  So everything is in one place, subscribe to the tri clubs calendar so that it shows up in your personal calendar.  Read more on how to do it here.
  • Here is a short video on how to register for the workouts using CCN.  You will need to create a CCN profile in order to register if you haven’t done so already.  That being said, if you have joined the club for the 2017 season, you will have an account and a profile already, so it will be super easy.

Do I need to have experience in triathlons to participate in the workouts?

Absolutely not!  We are a club that is super welcoming to new members, and often new members don’t have any experience.  If you have a baseline level of fitness, have a fun and positive attitude, and have a willingness to improve your health and well being, that is all that is required.  Our coach will tailor or change the workout based on your skill level and fitness level so that you aren’t over doing it (but you are obviously doing enough to improve your fitness!)

Do I need to be a TriMuskoka Triathlon Club member to participate in the workouts?

Yes … but … if you are new and want to see what we are all about, you have two “tri before you buy” workouts that you can go to before signing on the dotted line.  We ask that you contact our head coach, Jess Adam, to let her know you are coming and that you are interested.  She will also be able to answer any of your questions about the workouts and training.

2017 Workouts

Tuesday Night Bike Workouts17155467_10158598538660393_1316991605576864613_n

These sessions are open to all active TriMuskoka members and Kimberly Clark employees (contact Erin Gaughan if you are interested in participating).

How long are the workouts?

  • Winter and spring: We have three sessions of spin classes this winter and spring.  Each session goes from 630pm to 830pm and are 8 weeks long.  You can come for the first or second hour, or come for the whole two hour sessions.
  • Summer:  The outdoor bike sessions during the summer are 12 weeks long.   As the weather is good, this will be a mix of speed work, hill work for strength, and brick (bike run repeat) workouts.

Where are the workouts held?  Workouts are held:

  • During the winter: At Kimberly Clark (Huntsville Plant) in their Conference Facility.
  • During the spring, summer, and fall:  However, once the weather is nice enough and the roads are swept, the workouts will take place outside, at locations in and around Huntsville (locations to be posted on TeamSnap)

Who is leading the workouts?  The classes are coached workouts that are geared towards building our endurance and strength over the winter with our club races as the goals.  Coach Jess Adam are going to be alternating weeks that they are coaching.

Do I need to be a member of the club to participate?  Membership does have its privileges!  So, yes you do need to be an active member of the club to participate in the spin workouts.  If you aren’t a member, click here to sign up.

How many people can sign up?  For the indoor winter sessions, we are going to limit this class to 25 people as we have a defined space at Kimberly Clark.  For the spring, summer and fall there is no limit.

What if I can’t make it?  The benefit of coming to the workouts is that you will get technical feedback on your bike skills, as well as understand the principles behind the workouts that you are doing.  If you can’t make it to the workouts, don’t worry … the workouts will be posted on TeamSnap.  But you won’t have the benefit of having a coach give you individual feedback that will help you get the most out of your efforts.

How much is it to come to the workouts?  There is plenty of room for our members at these workouts (and if lots of people sign up then it will be like a peloton in a spin class!).  Each 8 week session is $20 per person (plus CCN fee).  Click on the REGISTER NOW to sign up for this using your CCN account, and pay by your credit card through their secure portal.

The current session runs from June 26th to August 31st.

An active TriMuskoka Triathlon Club membership is required to register for this club activity.

Thursday Morning Track Workoutstrack workout

These are a new addition to our clubs training schedule.  Coach Jess has a lot of experience at putting triathletes through their paces at track workouts as a LifeSport certified coach.

What is the purpose of a track workout?  Most people can go for a long run on their own, and a “long run” can vary from person to person depending on their goals and their level of fitness.  Most people want to “run faster”, and track workouts are the way that you can achieve that.  Not to mention that track workouts are on a looped circuit, which means that everyone works out together, and for lack of a better term, “suffers” together.

How long are the workouts?  We have three sessions of track workouts this winter.

  • Each session goes from either 600am to 700am, or 630am to 730am on Thursday mornings and are 12 weeks long.

Where are the track workouts going to be held?  The workouts are going to be held:

  • Winter: At the indoor track.  As the weather gets warmer, the workouts will transition to the Forbes Hill Road by the Waterloo Building, and when the Conroy Park Track is good and dry, then they will be held there.
  • Spring, Summer, and Fall: At the Conroy Park track during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Who is leading the workouts?  The track workouts are coached workouts that are geared towards building our endurance and strength over the winter with our club races as the goals.  Coach Jess Adam is going to be leading the workout.

Do I need to be a member of the club to participate?  Membership does have its privileges!  So, yes you do need to be an active member of the club to participate in the track workouts.  If you aren’t a member, click here to sign up.

How many people can sign up?  There is no limit to how many can participate.

What if I can’t make it and why you should come to the coached workout if you are able to?  The benefit of coming to the workouts is that you will get technical feedback on your running technique, pacing skills, the purpose of drills, when to run hard and when to run easy, as well as understand the principles behind the workouts that you are doing.  If you can’t make it to the workouts, don’t worry … the workouts will be posted on TeamSnap.  But you won’t have the benefit of having a coach give you individual feedback that will help you get the most out of your efforts.

How much is it to come to the workouts? There is plenty of room for our members at these workouts, and the more the merrier given the intensity of the workout.  Don’t worry…no one will be left behind, and all skill levels are encouraged to come out.

Weekly Own Swim (SOS) WorkoutsIMG_3730

We have had these going on for a while, but the workouts are going to be semi-coached by our super coach Jess.

What is the purpose of these workouts?  We hope that people show up to swim as a club at the public lane swim on Sunday nights, but if you can’t there will be the workout posted on TeamSnap that you can do sometime during the week.

How long is the workout?  Well, we are limited to the hour that the pool is available, so one hour…

Where are the workouts to be held?  Summit Centre Pool.  Meet at the pool viewing area around 715pm to go over the workout, the drills that are a part of the workout, and the purpose of the workout.  Then hop in the pool for 730.

Who is leading the lessons?  You!  Coach Jess puts together a workout that is available on TeamSnap and people can get together on their own at the lane swims.

How many people can participate?  Well, the more the merrier!  We might have to cram in the lanes, but it will still be fun.

Do I need to be a member of the club to participate?  Nope, but we hope you are!

How much is it?  Well, since this is public swim time, you purchase your own pool pass.  So we suggest you grab a 10 pack and be ready for the winter!

Monday Evening SwimsIMG_5236

This open water, real life, no lane marker swim is held in Lake Vernon.  There will be two options.  The first 1/2 hour is designed to learn triathlon specific drills and tactics such as different types of race starts, learning to swim with others near you, buoy turns, sighting, pacing, transitions etc.  Club members and our coach Jessica will be there to swim and give you tips during this time.

At 7pm, the endurance swim will start. This will consist of a 10-15 minute warm up and then a swim workout in the lake. Varying distances will be offered for people of varying abilities.

These swims are kayak accompanied by a super gang of volunteers.  Bring goggles, wetsuits (optional), YELLOW (or bright) bathing cap, swim safely buoy.  Babysitting is offered at a cost of $2.50 per child starting at 645 and ending at 800pm.

Non-members:  Remember that we have a “Try Before You Buy” policy within the club, where you can try two workouts (swim, bike, track, or combination thereof) before we will require you to sign on as a full fledged member of the TriMuskoka Triathlon Club.  Please contact our coach to let her know you are coming to the workout as a non-member and then check in with her upon your arrival.

Be a part of our super awesome kayak team:  If you have someone that doesn’t swim, but wants to come out to kayak/SUP, please invite them along and get them to bring their own kayak/SUP.

When: Every Monday.  Novice and new to lake swimming group are welcome to come early, but this group leaves at the same time as the experienced group.  The novice group sticks close to the shore.

The group warm up/cool down commences at 7pm, with the long swim to follow.  Refer to the TriMuskoka Triathlon Club training calendar on TeamSnap for each week.

  • Note: As a club member, you should have signed up for TeamSnap.  If the swim is cancelled, there will be a group message sent out to everyone to their phones.  Please make sure that you have “Notifications” turned on in your phones settings so you get a notification if the bike is cancelled due to weather or other reasons.  If you don’t have it on your phone, please download the app.  You can also check out the TriMuskoka Triathlon Club TeamSnap Page under your account to see what the status of the swim is at.

Where: Here is a map of where the location of the swim is.  This is a personal residence, so please go around to the back of the house and down to the dock.  Park on the road, not on the grass please.

Tuesday Night Bike Rides

IMG_5253

These rides will vary week to week as we build in to race season. There will be time trials (TTs), bricks (bike/run), and/or hill repeats for strength. Locations will vary according to the workout but will be posted on Team Snap in advance.  Times are collected and progress is fed back to our members.

The brick workouts are very popular. These are short distance bikes and runs that go back and forth and are great practice for your transitions and speed.  We will do our best to plan a route that ensures everyone stays together. Fastest will go last so that we finish as close as we can together as a group. These rides are as much social as they are a great workout and key for triathlon racing!

When:  Members participating in the Tuesday night rides should arrive and be on their bikes ready to ride at 630pm.  Refer to the TriMuskoka Triathlon Club training calendar on TeamSnap each week for location and information about the specific workout and what to bring.

Cost:  The cost is $30 for 12 weeks of coached workouts

Thursday Morning Track Workouts

They will always be held at Conroy track so that athletes of all abilities can come out, run at their pace and effort level and stay with the group. These are fully coached workouts where advice on pacing, lap times, technique and race strategy will be given. As well as encouragement!

When:  Thursday mornings with two start options, 6:00am and 6:30am. Whichever start time you choose the workout is the same and 1 hour long. You don’t have to start at the same time each week. If you sign up you are welcome to come at either time. Check Team Snap for details each week.

Cost:  The cost is $30 for 12 weeks of coached workouts
