Training Director & Head Coach
Jess has been a triathlon club coach in both cities of Vancouver and Victoria and now for TriMuskoka here in Huntsville. where she coaches on site swim, bike, and run workouts. She enjoys sharing her nearly 20 years of experience with aspiring triathletes offering custom training programs through LifeSport coaching. She has coached many athletes from beginner to advanced to successful triathlon finishes from first timer triathlons to multiple Ironman finishes. Over the years, she has collaborated on training projects and clinics with several top coaches, including Lance Watson and Paul Regensburg of LifeSport coaching. She has been an article contributor to Triathlon Canada magazine and Triathlon Canada magazine online. Jessica has a high level of technical expertise and a positive, can-do attitude about training and racing. She coaches all levels for all distances. To complement her coaching repertoire, Jessica is university educated in nutrition and sciences, and is a recipient of the “Langara Faculty Association Scholarship for Academic Excellence in Science”. Jessica is also an active triathlete, and 3 time national age group team member.
Her coaching and training philosophy is that every athlete is an individual, with different needs. Programs need to be tailored to suit the athlete’s abilities and goals. My job is to understand what these are, and design a program to guide them to success. My coaching philosophy will consist of a balance between motivation, instilling the importance of consistency in my athletes, and a strict focus on technique and form.
For the club, Jess coaches any number of our workouts for swim, bike, run, and transition elements of triathlon.
Jane is well known in our community as a tireless coach and source of inspiration for many. She doesn’t limit her athletic endeavours to only triathlon as she has successfully completed every distance of triathlon and now dabbles in on road and off road endurance events of every kind. During the off season, Jane coaches all of the adult swim programs for the Town of Huntsville. During our clubs summer season, she leads the Open Water Swim nights which have both technical and tactical swim training as well as endurance elements.
Regardless of swimmers ability level or their goal race distance I would like the open water swim workouts to be welcoming to all. Over the winter months most swimmers have worked on their technique, sprinting, interval, speed and some endurance workouts. I would like the open water swims to focus on maintaining a good pace, sighting and improving distance while still feeling comfortable in the water
Jane was a competitive swimmer briefly while in High School, then started in Aquatics through the Red Cross and Royal Lifesaving Society in 1977. For the past 15 years more of her focus has been on helping adults learn to swim and pushing those that already know how!
She did her first triathlon in the mid 90’s and have competed in various distances ever since. She loves the camaraderie that comes with triathlon and the discipline it takes to master all three sports
