A number of running races take place annually in Muskoka, each with their own flavor. From a Rock and Roll themed race, to one that brings Santa out, there is a race for everyone from young to old.
Don’t be fooled by it “only” being a running race, some of the race courses have significant hills that make the run all the more challenging and enjoyable. Why run on a flat course…you wanted a challenge didn’t you?
Huntsville Half Band on the Run
Probably one of the most fun running events that you will ever participate in, the Huntsville Half Band on the Run offers athletes the chance to run one of the hilliest running routes in Ontario. This race has a 1km kids run, 5km, 10km, and half marathon options. And if you want a truly Muskoka experience, then do the 5km canoe portage! All of the run routes feature quiet country roads that have very little road traffic during the race.
The upside is that the post race party is pretty amazing. Juno award winning artists typically are the headliners at a post race concert that features a beer tent and the chance to watch some wicked bands while relaxing on a blanket at River Mill Park.

The Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve is the trail runner’s dream with its challenging terrain that will take athletes alongside pristine lakes, through a wetland with its tier of beaver dams, up and over some steep inclines and either tiptoeing or splashing through the occasional creek or mud hole.
Athletes will run through technical areas that will require the nimblest of footwork and on trails that allow you to open up to your best speed, plus everything in between. Runners will marvel at the extraordinary beauty of this privately owned reserve that we are so privileged to enjoy. It will leave you breathless in more ways than one!

The neat thing about this race is that the 1km kids race takes place in Santa's Village, and the kids are welcome to play there all day after the race. You will have a hard time convincing your kids not to run in this race!
