Muskoka is cottage country to many people who come from around the world to play and to relax. With a plethora of accommodation options available to choose from, there is something for everyone.
Camping Under The Stars
With Muskoka being known for the great big outdoors, why not take advantage of it while you are here. There are two provincial parks that are very close to Huntsville, offering a Muskoka camping get away for you and your family year round. Yes, year round.
- Arrowhead Provincial Park: This park is less than 10 minutes from the Canada Summit Centre and is super family friendly with biking and hiking trails, sandy beaches, and a clear view of the night stars in the summer. In the winter, it is home to the world famous Arrowhead Skating Trail that winds its way around the park, and is maintained to the standards of any professional arena. It is also home to the Arrowhead Nordic Centre which maintains both skate and classic ski trails with a professional groomer. For accommodations, they have campsites, RV sites, and cabins for rent.
- Algonquin Provincial Park: This park is 45 minutes to town from the western gate, but is what the Muskoka region is well known for. This is where the Group of Seven artists painted their masterpieces many years ago, and these images still pop up into minds of people from around the world when they think of Muskoka. There are many camping and cabin options for you to choose from. This is a great place to train as well. The highway that goes right through the park (60km long one way) has great pavement and a wide shoulder to bike on. Try the gate to gate challenge, or even better, the gate to gate to gate (120km return) ride!
A Bed To Rest Your Head
There are any number of resorts, hotels, and bed and breakfasts in our community that you can book your accommodations with. Many of them within walking distance of downtown Huntsville and the Canada Summit Centre where all of our events take place (The TriMukokan, The TriMuskoka Winter Indoor Triathlon Classic, and Ironman 70.3 Muskoka).
We want to specifically mention a few of these accommodation businesses as they are big supporters of TriMuskoka Triathlon Club and the events that we host.
Colonial Bay Cottage Resort on Peninsula Lake is located 7 km from Deerhurst. A convenient location for the IRONMAN Muskoka and 70.3 Muskoka.
With one of the owners being a triathlete, this family owned and operated cottage resort provides a perfect home away from home for visiting athletes. Colonial Bay offers clean and comfortable cottages and motel style rooms and has become a staple for people training and racing in our area for many years.
There is a safe swimming area, canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and paddleboats available for someone to accompany an athlete for safe swimming. Families are welcome as there is lots to do at Colonial Bay while the athletes are training and racing. A great and unique place to watch the race from as well!
