What is the vision of the MSCLE Project?

The Movement for Strength, Conditioning, and Active Lifestyles for Everyone (MSCLE) Project is an initiative that was established in 2019 by our TriMuskoka Triathlon Club with the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to engage in accessible physical fitness through active play and structured exercise programming.

This community-based project will design and install a centrally located, publicly accessible network of fitness, exercise, and sports parks such that they are inclusive for all ages, fitness levels, physical abilities, regardless of primary place of residence and socioeconomic status.

What are the objectives of this awesome initiative?

The MSCLE Project meets one of TriMuskoka’s objectives to establish an engaging great community project that would:

  • Promote physical activity and enhance the health and well-being of our community

  • Be accessible to everyone regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic status

  • Have a lasting effect and ongoing presence in the community rather than a one-off event

  • Provide a safe, easy to follow, and scalable environment that would allow people to engage in physical activity from beginners just starting their fitness journey, all the way through to experienced athletes

  • Blend in with, and incorporate, the beauty and ruggedness of our area

  • Be not only a destination for our community residents but for our visitors as well for physical fitness

What will the mscle project fitness parks look like?

The MSCLE Project will bring the installation of open air fitness parks and stations around our community, which will be located in central and easily accessible locations.  Ideally, these stations and parks will be installed at locations that have fitness trails where people walk, run, or bike for cardiovascular fitness, so that cardiovascular and strength based activities can be combined.

In general, the MSCLE Project parks and stations will have

  • Park bench fitness stations with instructions

  • Bodyweight plyometric and calisthenic fitness parks

  • Parkour-style obstacle courses

  • Ground surfaces around the parks and stations which will allow individuals to do ground-based exercises like pushups, planks, or situps.

What is the funding model for the MSCLE Project?

Funding for this project will come from multiple sources in order to help this project get off of the ground more quickly and get our community moving!

Funding for this will come from:

  1. Revenue generated through events that TriMuskoka organizes, namely the TriMuskokan and the Sunrise Swim for Strength

  2. Collaborating with local businesses and contractors for materials and manpower donations

  3. Collaborating with local businesses who share in our passion for creating these fitness parks through financial contributions towards the projects

  4. Local, provincial, and national grants directed at increasing physical activity at the community level.
