Our head coach, Jess Adam, has over 20 years of coaching athletes from Try-a-Tri’ers to Ironman distance triathletes. Every week, she schedules workouts for us, and puts them up on our team platform, TeamSnap, where, whether you can join us in person or not, you have the workouts available for you to follow along.
Take a read below about each of the workouts that we get together to sweat, to laugh, to improve our technique and skills, and to support each other as we train. We encourage novices to get involved as much as possible as we all remember being a novice ourselves, and we want to ensure that you get the most out of these workouts. For those of you with experience under your race belt, this is a great way to improve your fitness, spend time with people who are equally passionate about the sport, and just like to hang out and train together.
Winter Workouts
Twice a week, we get together on Zoom from the comfort of your own home to do a custom workout that has been designed by our very own coach, Jess Adam. The workouts are:
On Tuesday mornings at 5:45am
The focus of these workouts are speed work, intevals, high cadence work and threshold work to improve your speed and power
On Thursday evenings at 5:45pm
The focus of these workouts are strength and cadence work to improve your power and efficiency.
Summer workouts
We get together in person twice a week to do a bike workout, which might be a time trial, a brick workout, a hill workout, or just a chill steady ride. All of these workouts are posted on TeamSnap, so if you can’t join us in person, you can do them on your own!
We hit the track year round for these great high yield workouts!
During the spring, summer, and fall, we take full advantage of the awesome 400m rubberized track at Conroy Park in Huntsville.
Spring, Summer, and Fall Time: Tuesday mornings at 6:00am at the outdoor track at Conroy Park
When the white stuff starts to come down, we move indoors into the Canada Summit center where there is a 217m indoor track around the top of one of the arenas.
Winter Track Time: Friday mornings at 6:00am at the indoor track on the second level of the Canada Summit Center
Even though the workouts are available on our team management website, TeamSnap, for our members to do anytime, there is nothing better than showing up in person to do it with other club members. This will push you harder than if you do it on your own, and you will get so much more out of the workout.
We know it is early in the morning! But just think of it … you have the rest of the day ahead of you without worrying about where to fit the workout in!
Summer swims
During the warmer months, usually from June to early September, we get together for a group open water swim at one of our club members’ houses.
These are fully supported with a number of local neighbours kayaking around us to not only keep us headed in the right direction, but also to keep any boats away from us (usually there aren’t many but just in case!).
For beginners or those who aren’t comfortable heading out into the lake, we usually suggest that you swim in the protection of the bay, and swim dock to dock. This can give you a chance to hang on and catch your breath if you need to. Also, when you have had enough, then you hop out, sit on the dock, and watch the sunset as everyone swims back in from the longer swim.
There are also early morning swims that aren’t club affiliated, but anyone is welcome on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
It would be awesome if we could swim outside all year, but Old Man Winter gets in the way of that!
Have no fear! Our coach puts together a workout that is available to all of our club members on TeamSnap that they can go to the pool to do!
The Town of Huntsville has a number of adult swim class-style workouts for all levels that most of our club members sign up for, but if you can’t make the Town class times, or simply want another workout to do in the pool, there is a new one every week!
