On june 22nd what is the schedule and what do you need to know?
It is a very busy day!
The schedule is laid out in the Athlete Guide and further described in the pre-race video. Watch the video, and then read the guide, and then you will be ready to roll! The complete schedule is listed below of what is going on, where it is happening, and everything in between!
TriMuskokan Race Day Schedule
Saturday
4:00 to 6:00 pm: Athlete check-in at the Canada Summit Centre
5:00 to 5:30 pm: Optional pre-race walk around and a chance to ask any last-minute questions.
Everyone and anyone is invited, and there is no such thing as a stupid question. This usually lasts about 30 to 45 minutes
Sunday
6:00 am: Athlete Check-In and Transition Zone Opens. Want to know where to park? Where to check in? Where to get your coffee before the race? Want to know basically where everything is? Look at the …
6:30 am: Pre-Race Meeting for All Short Course Athletes: This will take place in the transition zone as you are getting your stuff ready. Please be respectful and listen up as we go through the rules quickly. Just because you might not want to hear the rules doesn’t mean that the person next to you doesn’t want to hear them, so please be respectful.
Don’t want to yammer on when we got a race going on!
6:50 am: Allllllll aboard! The train is ready to be boarded at the Muskoka Heritage Place train station
Train Departure Times:
7:05am (train is leaving the station)
7:23am
7:40am
If you miss the last train, then you are walking down to Camp Kitchen which is a 10-minute walk!
The train is primarily for athletes. Spectators, if you are on the platform and there is room just before the train leaves, please jump on. Probably the best one for room will be the last one leaving at 7:40am as the athletes need to be down at Camp Kitchen for the prerace meeting at that time!
Very Important: Each train ride takes only 100, so you will need to get there early if you want a ride
To get to the train station: Look at this map to see where it is. Head around back towards the finish area, and then you will see the train station. It is about 5 minutes from the transition zone
The train will run approximately every 10 to 15 minutes with the final train arriving at Camp Kitchen for the short course pre-race meeting at 7:45.
If you want to ride the train, get to the station early. Otherwise, you will need to walk down (about a 10 minute walk from transition) to the swim start.
7:40 am: Transition Zone closes for Short Course, Duathlon, Relays, Swim-Bike
The Transition Zone is part of the race course, and we cannot have late arrivals setting-up their transition zone spot while the lead racers come through on course.
If you are not set-up, you need to wait until the last swimmer is out of the water and on the bike course.
However, during this time, the Try-a-Tri side of transition will remain open. Try-a-Tri participants will be required to come in at one specific location in the transition area that is closest to athlete check in.
Do not enter where the “SWIM IN” sign is as the short course participants will be coming in from the swim area at that location.
7:40: Staging of athletes at the swim start
Starting at bib #1, we will line up sequentially all the way until we get to the last bib number.
Starting at 7:50, we will be bringing groups of 5 into the water. There will be:
5 athletes at the start line,
5 athletes in the “on deck” position
5 athletes in the “second on deck” position
8:00 am: Short Course Race Start and Swim-Bike Start!
We are doing a time trial start rather than a wave start so that it is less nerve-wracking for those who are doing the race for the first time, and it allows everyone to have a great swim experience without masses of people starting at the same time
How this works:
Starting at 7:40am, we will get everyone to line up on the green green grass of Camp Kitchen starting at Bib #1, then #2, then #3, and so on until everyone is lined up in numerical order.
Starting at the stairs entering the water, the participant with race bib #1 will stand there. Then #2 lines up behind them … and so on until we reach the last participant in the short course triathlon
In groups of 5, we will get athletes to the start line in the water.
There will be one wave at the start line, one “on deck”, and one “on second deck”
As the start line wave leaves, then each group of five will move up one spot, replenishing from the folks who are next in line on terra firma.
Waves of 5 participants will leave every 10 seconds. So, the lines will keep moving, and that is why everyone has to get themselves in line before 8:00am
What happens if you miss your wave? Well, you jump in as soon as you can with another wave, but your time has already started when your wave was supposed to go.
8:10 am: Duathlon Start: adjacent to the Transition Zone, in front of the high school (one wave)
8:20 am: Pre-Race Meeting For Try-a-Tri Athletes in Transition Zone. Stand by your bikes, and listen to the rules and tips for the day, and then we will all head down to the train station to jump on the train and head to the swim start! Come prepared for a rapid fire pre-race meeting…watch the pre-race meeting video before the big day!
8:45 am: Train Starts running for Try-a-Tri
To get to the train station: Look at this map to see where it is. Head around back towards the finish area, and then you will see the train station. It is about 5 minutes from the transition zone
The train will run approximately every 17 minutes with the final train arriving at Camp Kitchen
If you want to ride the train, get to the station early. Otherwise, you will need to walk down (about a 10 minute walk from transition) to the swim start.
9:20 am: Transition Closes for the Try-a-Tri
Hustle down to the start line!!!
9:30 am: Try-a-Tri Race Start! Now the fun begins! Stop biting your nails and pulling your hair out! It is time to put your training to the test!
We will start at the first bib number for the Try-a-Tri (not sure what that is yet), and then line up in numerical order on the shores of Camp Kitchen at around 9:00am
Then we will file into the water in that order and line up behind the start line which will be in shallow water where everyone should be able to stand
Starting at 9:30am, we will send one participant off every 5 seconds down the river from the starting line.
If you miss your start time ... no problem, just jump in line and start, but your time starts when you were supposed to be at the start line!
11:00am-ish: Transition opens. The transition will open once the last runner leaves the transition and heads out onto the course. The bags of shoes/clothes from the swim start will be outside the fence of the transition zone, on the side closest to the expo.
Stay Calm, and Race On: Keep on going until you cross the finish line, where you will rejoice in your personal victory! Make sure you celebrate in style with a huge smile or a finish line jump as we will have a photographer there to take a pic!
Keep walking over to the volunteers who will take your timing chip off of your ankle, and then head out of the finish line area for some righteous photos with your cheer squad!

You will need to have your race bib, and ID proving that you are 19 or older in order for Canvas to give you a beer.
Hang out and cheer everyone on: The races are staggered so that many Try-a-Triers and Short Course athletes finish at about the same time. Let’s give all our participants a cheering crowd when they come to the finish line!
We have bleachers that you can hang out on to cheer as athletes enter the finishing chute. So, make the switch from athlete to part of our cheer squad.
Grab a noisemaker, put your hands together, or whoop it up so that everyone feels like a champion!
Grab your morning clothes and shoes: If you dropped off a bag at the swim start, you can pick them up inside the transition zone.
The Awards Ceremony! At around 12 noon, please gather around the roundabout for the awards ceremony, and then head out to enjoy the rest of the day!

Some people have told us that our Athlete Guide is more comprehensive than those that you get at an Ironman event. We like to think that it includes everything for both the novice and seasoned athlete to come prepared and not to be anxious or stressed out about participating in our event.
